EDITORIAL
Since our new term of office, we have considered twinning and international action in a different way.
On the one hand, by drawing on a recognised Association of twinning and international action which should be a benchmark for the citizens of Taverny who wish to invest either culturally or linguistically.
On the other hand, we also want these twinnings to benefit young people as the openness to Europe and the world offers them opportunities to thrive, to open their minds to travel and to practice languages abroad.
Finally, beyond institutional twinning with European nations, we also wish to promote humanitarian action in countries in economic and social difficulties. Indeed, a town like Taverny can only benefit through these exchanges, as we have a lot to learn, in all humility, from their cultures, their customs, the geography and history of their countries. Everything that makes the world diverse will enable everyone to build a richer identity.
This is why we are launching in addition to the already existing institutional twinnings with Germany (Lüdinghausen) and the Czech Republic (Sedlčany), a cultural partnership with the conservatory of Prato in Tuscany, and a twinning with the town of Novi Sad in Serbia.
We want to promote language stays for our young people who will thus acquire and improve their foreign language skills. This will be an asset on their curriculum vitae for their university or professional futures. We also have contacts with Spain and an English-speaking country as these are the two most widely spoken languages internationally. We will also take on a twinning with Portugal to meet the demands of the highly represented Portuguese community in Ile-de-France, and more particularly in Taverny.
All these twinnings are and will be part of the Association of Twinnings and International Exchanges of Taverny.

The Taverny Twinning and International Exchanges Association was created on October 23. 2021, following the proposal of our mayor, Florence Portelli, who wishes to broaden Taverny’s openness to the world.
The purpose of the association is to encourage the building of relations between the inhabitants of Taverny with those of the twinned towns and other partners, in several domains: education, sports, culture, social and economic.
This will enable a better mutual understanding, to increase the awareness of the fellow citizens of international realities.
